Summary

The Anglo-Portugese continued to snap at the heels of Ney's retreating formations. Ney used his not inconsiderable skills to manage this retreat and for his part Wellington prevented the French from making a resolute stand on suitable prepared ground. Although a drawn battle the purpose served was more to the Allies favour than the French.
