Summary
The French Royalist force had a significant element of Emigrés recruited and supported by the English. Unfortunately many of the 'Royalists' were Republicans captured in the Netherlands and pressed into sevice. They deserted en-masse carrying details of the Royalist defence to the enemy. The Royalists suffered a resounding defeat.
Location
A peninsular on the southern coast of Brittany, western France, about 20 miles south of the port of Lorient.
