XV Corps. The 24th Division held off two assaults but after renewed bombardment were driven back by the third. The Germans out flanked part of Edge Trench which was relinquished. A stand was then made in the remaining sections of Edge Trench and was supported from Inner Trench. A German attack from Wood Lane forced troops back along Tea Trench. German attempts to take Orchard Trench were repulsed. By the end of the day the British position was stabilised but they had lost ground to the north and the eastern corner of Delville Wood.
