British attempts to extend their holding from the trenches gained yesterday were unsuccessful but they were able to retain their grasp in spite of heavy shelling.

II Corps. The 12th Division fought during the day to extend their holding from Skyline Trench they were unsuccessful. The attack was resumed after dark but met with no greater success. The German artillery had the exact location of the trench so to avoid the bombardment posts were pushed out 100 yards in front. The troops returned to the trench when the bombardment died down.
