Summary
Another tiny engagement with very large consequences. The garrison was formed from the French National Guard, the attackers were company of Austrian Landsturm plus 20 regular soldiers. The appearance of a British warship [a brig] in the harbour also influenced the French commander. The action secured the rear of the Austrians in the area and opened them up to the support of the British Adriatic squadron [three ships of the line and a brig under Admiral Freemantle].
