Although in principle a war between Athens and Sparta the war ebbed and flowed over much of the Eastern Mediterranean and involved many other peoples. e.g. Persia financed the Spartan navy and in the later stages of the war Persian ships fought alongside Spartans.
At the end Athens was starved into defeat and was never again a significant power in the ancient world.
