Summary
Henry IV lured a much larger force of Catholics under the Duc de Mayenne into an ambush at a previously prepared position on the River Bethune. His expert use of artillery emplacements and trenches more than made up for his lack of numbers and Mayenne was soundly beaten and fell back on Amiens.
