Summary
A Federal force under Gen Seymour landed at Jacksonville to attempt to gain a foothold in Florida. The marched to meet Confederate forces around Olustee who , well protected by swamp and forest, attacked in mid-afternoon. Two of the three Union divisions broke and ran but the third fought an effective rearguard action to cover the retreat back to Jacksonville.
