Summary

Edward lll accompanied by the Prince of Wales [ Black Prince] led a fleet of ships [number?] to intercept a Spainish fleet of forty sail. In a classic, of that period, 'board and capture' battle the English took twenty five of the Spanish ships as prizes. At least four of the English ships were sunk, including the King's own ship. He and the Black Prince survived by boarding and taking a Spanish ship.
An important English victory.

Probably 10 to 15 miles out to sea off the then coastline between Rye and Winchelsea.
