Summary
The Dutch fleet of 59 men-of-war under Admirals De Witte and De Ruyter cruised off the Goodwin sands. An English fleet of nearly equal force, under Blake, engaged them at 1600hrs. Some of the Dutch ships were sunk others dismasted and captured. The English pursued the Dutch over the next two days until they gained the mouth of the Texel.
