Summary
Many minor actions were fought in the Tyrol by local militias [Schützen and Landsturm companies]. They knew the ground and adopted skirmishing tactics to which the regular Saxon and Bavarian troops [and their commanders] could not adapt. Here the Allies lost nearly a third of their men including the Saxon rear-guard who were isolated and destroyed.
Location
A village on the river Eisack [now Isarco] in the southern Tyrol about 6 miles north along the valley from Brixen [Bressanone]. (Italy)
