Summary
Ewell, with the II Corps formerly commanded by Jackson marched on Winchester and the Union forces there under Robert H Milroy. Milroy chose to stand and fight, and when Early's Confederates charged him from the west they broke and ran. Of the 5,100 Union troops in Winchester no more than a couple of hundred made it out of Ewell's grasp, most being captured in the pursuit of the 15th.
