Summary
A War between the British Colonial forces and the Boer inhabitants (of Dutch descent) of the Transvaal and Orange Free State in South Africa.
The strength, courage and skill of the Boers was massively underestimated by the British who only began to get the upper hand when sufficient reinforcements had been drawn from throughout the empire to give them great numeric superiority.
Before that point the Boers won many important victories.
