Summary
In the Morval sector XV Corps and III Corps both made significant gains, but the New Zealand Division in particular loss many men.
In the Thiepval sector after suffering heavy overnight bombardment the 2nd Canadian Div. moved forward to occupy ground from which the Germans had pulled out. 1st Canadian division fought hard all day but at the end of the day had not made any ground. Trops of II Corps fought from 0630hrs to 2100hrs and in spite of heavy losses Thiepval was cleared and a line beyond it was consolidated.
