The Yorkist army under Edward, Earl of March, deployed his army in a blocking position to prevent a Lancastrian force under the Earls of Pembroke and Wiltshire linking up with Queen Margaret's army. Yorkist losses were light but the Lancastrians lost over 3000 men in the battle and pursuit.
