Anglo-Scottish Wars
War Name : Anglo-Scottish Wars
Date(s) : 603 - 1707
Summary
England and Scotland existed as independent nations until the Act of Union in 1707 although King James [The First and The Sixth respectively] was monarch in both realms.
Over this considerable period the extent of the aggression varied greatly from border skirmishes to full scale invasions. The distinctions between combattants rarely fell along national lines with both Scots and English in various degrees on both sides. English Kings were particularly keen to take advantage of any Scottish civil war, Scots engaged in internal disputes often accepted and occasionally sought English help. From time to time France, and to a lesser extent Spain, as an enemies of England, played a role in the support of Scotland.
