Summary
After investing Fort William Henry, Montcalm with his French regulars and a large force of Indian warriors persuaded the British garrison under Col. Monro to capitulate. The garrison was accorded the honours of war and were allowed to march out with their colours. This, however, was totally contrary the the Native American concept of war, and the Warriors fell upon the withdrawing British and slaughtered many. Montcalm destroyed the fort and withdrew to winter quarters at Ticonderoga.
