Summary
Conflicts over commercial undertakings in Africa lead to the Dutch declaring war in January 1665 to which the English responded in February. De Ruyter's raid up the Thames, the Plague and the Great Fire of London all contributed to the English seeking peace on terms favourable to the Dutch in the Treaty of Breda 1667.
