Lake Maretois

Battle Name : Lake Maretois

Date(s) : 13 March 1801

Part of : The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars , French War of the Second Coalition ,

Outcome : A victory for British Forces over French Forces [Army of the Orient]

Type of battle : Land

A strongly positioned French force was attacked by the numerically stronger British. A British lack of mobile artillery and a frontal assault by the 90th and 92nd foot on the Mandora Redoubt accounts for the high British casulties. In spite of these losses the British carried the position and won the day.
