Summary

Both to the north and east of Delville Wood attempts were made to regain the ground lost yesterday.

XV Corps. 24th Division. Initial attempts on Orchard Trench were defeated but in the afternoon fresh troops were thrown in and by 1800hrs the British had retaken Orchard Trench and secured Wood Lane. On the right of the division about 20 yards of Edge Trench were regained. The 7th Divsion attempt to reach Hop Alley on the east of Delville Wood was stopped by machine-gun fire.
